The Dark Knight

Posted in Friends, Fun times, Holidays, Movies | 4 Comments »

The JokerLast night I went out to see the new Batman movie. Although it wasn’t exactly a movie I’d choose to watch, overall it wasn’t that bad. The Dark Knight is definitely not like the other batman movies with characters like Poison Ivy or Penguin, which is both good and bad. It’s a good thing if you hated the corniness of those movies, bad if you loved the lightheartedness of those movies.

Heath Ledger did a good job as the Joker, but I didn’t think his performance was especially mind blowing or worth all the hype over how amazing he was. Personally, I think any good actor could have done as good a job as him as long as they had a visionary director to tell them how they should act, or even just an imagination. A lot of the gossip TV shows I’ve seen blame Ledger’s dark portrayal of the Joker for making him sort of “go crazy”. Honestly, there is nothing in the movie that dark. There is absolutely no blood, or scenes that make you cringe at the torture of it all. Some people think that all the praise his acting is receiving is valid, but I feel that the only reason Ledger is getting all this praise is because he died. He was great in Brokeback Mountain, but there was no hype surrounding how godly his acting was.

Overall it was a good movie. I wouldn’t bring anyone much younger then fourteen though. I saw one Dad take what appeared to be a roughly seven year old girl out during the middle of the movie then never come back in. So, if you still haven’t seen the movie, go see it. Or at least rent it or watch it on the digital movie channels once it comes out.

Wii Fit = Fun

Posted in Video Games | No Comments »

Both before and after work today I played Wii Fit. It’s a lot of fun, but some of the activities can be too easy or they don’t do anything for you because they’re just a balance game. Then there is some (the jogging) that are just plain tiring, because it doesn’t properly register. (So you can bounce, run around, shake what your momma gave you, as fast as you want, and your Mii will still travel at a snails pace.

Overnight I lost 1.8 pounds, but as the game told me, body weight can fluctuate up to two pounds throughout the day/month. So by tomorrow morning, it might be telling me I’ve gained weight!

What I really love about the game is how it measures your weight for you, no guessing on how much you weigh of lying about it. Also when setting up you account is asks you to set a goal, I was already in normal parameters for my BMI, so even though I don’t need to lose any weight I set my goal to be go from 110 to 100 in a year; clearly I am in no rush.

Tomorrow I’m not sure how much Wii Fit time I will have, because Jake and I have plans to go see the new Batman movie. It definitely wasn’t my first choice in movies, but I don’t mind going to see it.

Trip to the beach, and Wii Fit!

Today Jake and I went out on a another full day date. We decided to go around town and just find things to do. So, first we decided to go to the beach and just enjoy the sites around it. The water looked beautiful (in the clean parts at least).

On our way to a play ground so we could play on the swings, two little girls ran out from behind us and stole them away from us. We didn’t complain and sat on the bench not to far away to wait. When they got off to go play on the climber we took the swings and began to swing away. From the climber we could overhear one of the girls say to the other:
“Oh. My. God. Look at those parents on the swings!”
“They’re really young to be parents, my parents have grey hair.”
“Only one of my parents have grey hair.”
Jake and I laughed and he turned to me and said, “Where are our kids, shouldn’t we be watching them? We’re awful parents.”

Later, we decided to go shopping and we encountered an annoying Electronic Boutique salesman who knew absolutely nothing. I asked the man if he had any Wii Fit’s in stock. His response was “Nope, we sold out the second we got them, and always do. You can find them anywhere in the city.”

Then, Jake asked to reserve Soul Caliber 4, and the guy stared at him blankly, said “Um, okay. Just a moment.” Then he proceeded to go back and forth on his two computers for ten minutes, then off to the back room for another five, then came back and continued to not say anything to us and just stared at the computers. So, we left.

Of all places, we went to Walmart, and they had tons of them. So now, I’m a proud owner of a Wii Fit!

Singing (Michael Jackson Style) Customers

Posted in Work | No Comments »

Today was mostly an uneventful day at work. No mean or nasty customers to report, which is always good. There was an unusual amount of drama amongst the employees today, which was irritating but I ignored it and just kept on working. However, there was one customer today who made it eventful, at least for me.

During a slow point right before the lunch rush a group of roughly twelve year old kids came in. They were rambunctious and loud, which I expect from a group of kids that age during summer vacation. They stared at the menu for awhile, and then one of the kids proceeded to line up. When he reach my till, he began to sing his order in his best Michael Jackson impersonation, complete with dance moves.

It went something like: (first imagine Michael Jackson’s voice in “Beat it”) “Largeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee *squeal* ICE CAAAAAAAAAAP! *twirl* Largeeeeeeeee ICE CAP! With. A. Miiiiint shot. Puh-leasEEE!”

He burst out laughing, along with his friends who were now observing from a safe distance away, and so did I. I had not the slightest clue what he had just said. My eyes began to water from laughing so hard. Eventually I was able to speak, and I asked him to repeat himself. He did, once again, in the same style. This time I was able to pick up his order between the twirls and hip shakes. After I made him his Large Ice Cap with a mint shot, I thanked him for making my day.

Misson Accomplished: My bedroom is clean.

After several hours of procrastinating and cleaning I have finally finished cleaning the disaster known as my room. I took several breaks, many of which were unproductive, but some that were very interesting.

Here it is:

During one of my procrastination breaks, I was looking at the back of my TV and noticed a series of places that perhaps a computer could plug into. So I grabbed my old computer out of the closet and began to play around with cords that I had found in the computer room. Eventually I was able to set it up correctly, so now I can use my TV as a computer monitor. Clearly, I now have the ultimate entertainment center set up.

As you can see, I have my desktop computer, Wii, VCR, and Play Station 2, all going into my Television; while my laptop, stereo, and Nintendo DS are all just kinda hanging around, enjoying being cool on the TV stand. I left my iPod touch on the other side of the room, it’s still trying to fit in with all the other electronics.

Todays Goal: Clean my room.

Because I have spent a good portion of my summer either working or sleeping, I have neglected to clean my room.

This is the current state it is in.

So I have decided that this afternoon will be dedicated to getting my room and my laptop as clean and organized as possible with the amount of time I have to do it.

Wish me luck!

Being “Twinsies” and watching Hair Spray, what a perfect date.

After writing yesterday I ended up going over to my boyfriends house, and it ended up being a really fun night in.

It started with him picking me up at my house. When he pulled into the driveway the first thing I noticed was that he was wearing a fluorescent yellow shirt, (I’m sure anyone on the road could have noticed his shirt from a mile away) that happened to be almost identical in colour to the yellow and white stripped sweater I was currently wearing.

Our conversation went a little something like this…

Eva: I can’t get into the car until you change.
Jake: How come?
Eva: Because you copied what I’m wearing. Your yellow is the exact same as my yellow.
Jake:You know that you’re the one who copied me. I slept in this shirt, you can go back inside and change, or come in the car and be twinsies with me.

So I chose to be “twinsies” with him. We then headed to a convenience store by his house to pick up some milk, where the owner remarked on our matching attire, and Jake proudly announced to him that we were, in fact, “twinsies”. The man only looked at as mildly confused and wished us to have a good day.

At his house Harry Potter and The Order of The Phoenix was almost over, so we watched it. Then Hair Spray came on, which Jake had yet to see. I declared that Hair Spray would be what we’d be watching and Jake pouted and complained until it started; and he absolutely loved it. By the end we were both dancing around to “You can’t stop the beat”.

On the way home the new, New Kids On The Block song came on the radio. I was lucky enough to be born in the nineties, so I didn’t have the privilege of listening to their lyrical genius. Jake on the other hand, has several older siblings who were all born in the eighties, so he had a vague idea of what to expect. Lo and behold somehow we ended up driving down the busiest street in town with whatever that song was called blasting on the radio and waving to those we passed by. Good times.

Although to some, that night not have been an exceptionally exciting or fun(ny), for me it was a great time. Hopefully my embarrassment for listening to New Kids On The Block will wear off soon.

A little over a month until nursing school begins.

My first day of College is September second, and I still have yet to book myself for any sort of tour or campus transition/greeting day sort of thing. Although I am interested in seeing my school and getting to know the inside of it. The thing is, I just haven’t had time and I don’t want to go alone. I know, the second reason is a lame reason, but I can’t help that I feel that way.

I’m not going to lie, I am nervous about school. I’m worried about if I’ll be good enough, if I’ll understand it all. If I can handle the stress of becoming a nurse, and then being a nurse.

I’m hoping they’ll have more tour days in August, when it’s closer to school and I will have more free time. Knowing my way around the school a little bit might alleviate some of my worry about it all. If they don’t have more tour days, then I hope I’ll be fine. I don’t see why I wouldn’t be. It’s not like the “big bad school” is going to harm me for getting lost.

“Tim Horton’s by the bay”

Posted in Work | No Comments »

Overnight we had quite a bit of rainfall, which made the parking lot of my Tim Horton’s into bit of a swimming pool this morning. During my first break I made sure to run out and get some pictures on my camera phone.

Several customers suggested to me that there must be a drain plugged, but with the tone that I should be the one out there doing it. There wasn’t a thing I could do about it, not only am I not the sun, but I am not the store owner who could call someone in to drain it. The only thing I could tell them is that the store owner is aware of the puddles.

The title of this post is a quote from what one of my customer said to me early in the morning while we discussed all the water outside. Luckily, he was one of the nice ones who complained about there car getting wet from our puddles. (Even though it was raining off and on throughout the day.)

I was hoping for a slow day because of the rain, but it ended up being busy because of it. Thankfully when I only had two hours left I was allowed to go on drive thru, which made time fly by for me. I love being on drive thru window, all I have to do is hand a person there order, take their money, and give them their change.

I didn’t have many difficult customers again today, just people disputing how much money they gave me, which can be frustrating; until they reach into there pocket and find that dime they meant to give me.

Another Workday Done

Thankfully, I have survived another day working in the fast food industry. Overall it wasn’t a horrible day. I had a few stupid customers, but more good ones then bad ones.

The two worst customers today all involved Ice Cappuccino’s. The first guy was upset after seeing how “small” our large Ice Cap’s are. I showed him our medium cups and small to show him the difference, and he began to go on about how much bigger our mediums are then our larges. I explained to him that at my Tim Horton’s we’re in the process of switching to different (more cheaply made) cups that are taller then the current ones, but skinnier. We’ve run out of the old medium cups quicker then the smalls and larges, so we are using the new medium cups. The man would not accept my answer. I put his large Ice Cap into a medium cup to prove the difference in width. He still didn’t understand. He stormed off after further discussion where he enlightened me that he will “never buy another one of those here again”. Good.

I also had a lady who ordered two Ice Cap Supremes and was upset when I didn’t make them instantly because she had “places to go” and was “in a rush”, and complained to my supervisor how slow I was. Luckily my supervisor knew this lady was being ridiculous and defended me. Seriously, if you have places to go, don’t order the most time intense product in the store.

I’ve done a few more updates on the site, still not an awful lot. Once I get things a little more organized and complete (and I don’t have to work) I’ll make my own layout.
