Nursing School Soon Begins

Posted in Nursing, School, Stress | 1 Comment »

I’m only days away from my first day of school and my stomach just did a little flip flop just thinking of it. My past week has been full of enjoying my last few days of sleeping in and getting everything sorted out for school.

I need to bring the school my first aid certificate, police record check, and immunization sheet, yet I am unsure of where specifically in the school I need to bring them. I’ve decided that I want to hand them in before school starts, so that way I actually have a vague idea of what my school looks like on the inside, and so I have less to stress out about.

Speaking of stress, my mother has been driving me crazy lately. I am under the impression that she is sad that “her little baby” is all grown up and about to go to college, so she’s doing everything humanly possible to stay needed and involved with my life. Unfortunately it’s getting ridiculous. I tell her I am going to take a shower and she reminds me that I need a towel. I go check the mailbox for her and she tells me which key to use to unlock it. All of those things I clearly know. Also I ask her a simple question and it turns into some sort of insult against me, for example:

Me: “Mom, do you have any sort of ideas as to what I need for back to school, clothes wise?”

Mom: “I think you need jeans that will actually cover your ass, and underwear you can wear under a white uniform in case you have to wear one. You need more conservative clothing.”

I suppose that’s what I get for asking.

I got my schedule for my first semester a few days ago, there is one class not put into the schedule because it says the information isn’t available on it yet; but as it is so far I only have classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. On Monday’s I’m not done until 6:00pm, however all of my classes begin at 10:00am. Although that sounds like a sleep in everyday, considering I’m going to have to take public transit, I still have to get up at seven so I have time to get ready and get there on time.

On the way to the cottage

I am definitely in a rush right now. (I just had to go on a mad hunt for my camera, somehow it was under my bed, like dead center under it.) I’m going to Jake’s parent’s cottage for the rest of today until tomorrow morning. I’ll be sure to post pictures once I am home. Take care everyone!

Birthdays and Updates

I picked up my police check from the station today. Lo and behold my criminal record is non existent (as if that’s a surprise) and I’m not a sexual offender (I could have told them that before hand). It seems like a waste of money for the school to require this, but I suppose if we didn’t pay for the checks ourselves, they’d have to.

My Dad also turned fifty nine on Thursday, so after some brainstorming Jake and I developed an idea for a World of Warcraft / Age of Conan cake. (Well, technically it could be any game that has “level ups”.)

World of Warcraft Cake

My Dad felt much better about reaching level fifty nine over age fifty nine.

Police Check Accomplished

Jake and I went to the police station today to get my required police check done to enter the Nursing program. I unfortunately did not warn Jake before hand of my plan to go to the police station and he had chose to wear his Magical Trevor shirt that said “Beans lots of beans lots of beans lots of beans yeah” on the back. I was a little embarrassed by the childish shirt, but I decided not to let it bother me, it wasn’t even police officers I had to talk to.

I needed one piece of government issued photo id, and something with both my name and address on it. Luckily, only by chance I had my acceptance letter with me that just happened to have my name and address on it, without it I would have had to gone home and look for something.

The process was relatively easy, I filled out two forms, handed them to the lady and was charged five dollars for it. I am to pick it up on Friday.

Now I just have to hand in my immunization form, police check, and CPR/First Aid Certificates to my school and I’ll be already for my first day of Nursing school.

My English teacher hated me, but she still made me a better writer

My grade twelve English teacher detested me. During my journey through school I was always good at writing. Getting anything below eighty percent never happened. I loved writing, I didn’t want a career in it, I just liked to do it.

Then, I entered grade twelve. My teacher was a mousy looking woman with glasses to big for her shrunken face and bangs that the 1980’s needed to reclaim. She had several phrases that she used at least ten times a day such as “I could buy that,” and “Alright gang”.

She marked me harshly, yet gave no pointers as to where I went wrong. My average suffered, yet she preached to us about how cruel we are to her and that no one will ever help us like she did.

Past her criticisms with no suggestions for improvement, by the end of the year I was better, and I recognized that. Although the entire class felt they weren’t getting the marks they deserved I felt so proud when on my last assignment she finally left me a comment that said she, “Enjoyed the story, but felt it was too graphic at the end”.

Either that, or she was one of those teachers who mark by throwing the assignment down the stairs and the closer it is to the bottom floor the higher the mark, and she just happened to get stronger by the end of the year.

New Laptops mean New World of Warcraft Accounts

Finally Jake got his new laptop today, which meant that I finally could buy him his own World of Warcraft account to play. Myself, and a group of my school friends are all playing on Arygos Alliance side, so if anyone plays on that server, feel free to add Lovelle as a friend, and say hi!

Today was also my Grandfather’s birthday, he hit the rich old age of seventy nine.

On top of all that, Jake also learned that my Grandma is forgetful.

Grandma: “Jake, in the fridge we have Seven Up, Water, Cranberry Juice, Ginger ale, and Seven Up, oh wait we don’t have Ginger ale, but I think we might have Seven Up.”

Officially a party pooper

I’ve been invited to an all night camping party tonight, however I don’t feel like going. Firstly, I don’t own a tent and secondly, it’s raining outside, and I don’t feel like sleeping on wet grass.

I really should go because I have been neglecting my friends this summer, but not on purpose. I’ve been busy with work, and now that I don’t have to work I just want to catch up on all that sleep I have missed.

Since today has been such a dreary day, I stayed in and worked on my blog. I didn’t even play World of Warcraft or Wii Fit, or get out of my pajamas for that matter.

In other news, my family’s replacement washing machine for the new washing machine we bought early this year that never worked, has also broke. So I’ve been privileged enough to hear all day from my Mother, “Twelve towels to be washed at the laundromat! That’s almost all our towels! How many towels do you need in one week?” What she doesn’t know is that also includes towels from the previous week, but she didn’t quite grasp that concept.

Also, I have the newest JG Wentworth commercial stuck in my head. You know, the one with the people singing in the Opera about needing cash now? (If you click on that, you’ll see what I’m talking about.) It’d be sweet if they stopped showing that commercial.

New Layout for FiveFootOne.net, finally.

After several hours of playing World of Warcraft today, I finally convinced myself that it was time to get a move on and work on my domain.

It isn’t the hand made layout I expected to put on my site, but none the less I finally have something besides an ugly template that is unique and made by me. This layout is still a work in progress, but at least it’s nice enough the way it is right now.

It is an edited version of the K2 template, and I’m very happy with it.

This website is about my writing anyway, not about how much I remember how to edit every aspect of my website just using a CSS file!

Be ready for some actual content being added to the blog!

My new layout is still not finished.

As the title says, I still haven’t finished the new layout for Fivefootone.net. I promise it’ll be done, on the soonish side. It’s pretty simple looking still, and I’m still not quite sure about the colour scheme, but if you’d like to see a sneak peak as I work away on it, feel free to view it right here as I write this my sidebar is a total disaster that needs to have some padding added onto it.

Please leave comments and suggestions for the layout right here!

Some Peoples Parents

It’s funny how the plans for your day can so abruptly change. After my Wii drama yesterday Jake came over to comfort me and take me to the beach.

Well, at least that was the plan.

Somehow it evolved from going to the beach, to pick my parents up supper, cut the lawn for my parents (well I didn’t do it, Jake did, for free might I add), finally go to the beach, and then pick up some friends who need a ride home.

The nerve of some parents these days.
