I don’t care about the history of nursing, why oh why must I read this endless junk? *Whines* *Complains*
This week of Nursing school has been far better then last. I’m actually enjoying it, although I’m finding that the classes really run into each other, especially: Health Theory, Human Growth and Development, and Anatomy and Physiology; which is both a good and bad thing. It’s good because it’s like learning the same thing over and over, bad because you get confused on what assignment goes with what class.
I’m loving it so far, but the work load is definitely keeping me away from going out or doing anything that isn’t homework.
School has begun with all its glory and already I’ve managed to look super stupid. On my orientation day I read my schedule wrong, and went into this one lecture hall an hour too early. At first I didn’t really notice the high male population. Or how I was the only girl. I even made it as far as getting a hand out and still didn’t really notice anything wrong. It all started to come together when the professor said, “How many of you want to become Electricians?” and the entire room (minus myself) raised their hands.
After that episode I was slightly distressed over the whole College thing which threw me into tears and “I don’t wanna’s” the next morning.
After the first real day I felt a lot better. I understood what was going on, I had all my scheduling matters under control and was starting to actually get excited (instead of petrified) for becoming a nurse.
The next day (Thursday) I decided to start tackling the to do list that I had religiously went over the night before to help eliminate my stress. I was able to sort out all my student loan, banking, scrub shopping and so on. So my advice to anyone going into Nursing or any College thing is sort out anything stressing you out as soon as possible. Dragging it out is only going to make you feel worse.
So Monday is my first lab, (apparently I’m learning hand washing and basic techniques) and my Clinicals begin after reading week! However, I doubt I’ll be able to write about it. My first class (which I had to add on to my schedule myself, without any notification from the College) begins at 8:00am, and I don’t finish my day up until 6pm.
Yesterday I went visited my College for the first time and I understand how to get around it! It’s pretty simple and everyone I met was super helpful and nice.
I also went to the bookstore and spent over a thousand dollars on my textbooks. They were heavy as heck and was glad I brought my Dad with me to help me carry them. It was super painless getting them. I entered the bookstore and had no clue where to look, but was quickly able to find one of the bookstore employees who was more then happy to give me a hand. He helped me find all my text books in less then ten minutes and off I went to pay for them.
Anyway so I start tomorrow! It’s only like an orientation sort of day, but I’m super excited and a lot less nervous since now I know what my school looks like!
