On the way to the cottage

Posted in Holidays, Summer | No Comments »

I am definitely in a rush right now. (I just had to go on a mad hunt for my camera, somehow it was under my bed, like dead center under it.) I’m going to Jake’s parent’s cottage for the rest of today until tomorrow morning. I’ll be sure to post pictures once I am home. Take care everyone!

Officially a party pooper

I’ve been invited to an all night camping party tonight, however I don’t feel like going. Firstly, I don’t own a tent and secondly, it’s raining outside, and I don’t feel like sleeping on wet grass.

I really should go because I have been neglecting my friends this summer, but not on purpose. I’ve been busy with work, and now that I don’t have to work I just want to catch up on all that sleep I have missed.

Since today has been such a dreary day, I stayed in and worked on my blog. I didn’t even play World of Warcraft or Wii Fit, or get out of my pajamas for that matter.

In other news, my family’s replacement washing machine for the new washing machine we bought early this year that never worked, has also broke. So I’ve been privileged enough to hear all day from my Mother, “Twelve towels to be washed at the laundromat! That’s almost all our towels! How many towels do you need in one week?” What she doesn’t know is that also includes towels from the previous week, but she didn’t quite grasp that concept.

Also, I have the newest JG Wentworth commercial stuck in my head. You know, the one with the people singing in the Opera about needing cash now? (If you click on that, you’ll see what I’m talking about.) It’d be sweet if they stopped showing that commercial.

Some Peoples Parents

It’s funny how the plans for your day can so abruptly change. After my Wii drama yesterday Jake came over to comfort me and take me to the beach.

Well, at least that was the plan.

Somehow it evolved from going to the beach, to pick my parents up supper, cut the lawn for my parents (well I didn’t do it, Jake did, for free might I add), finally go to the beach, and then pick up some friends who need a ride home.

The nerve of some parents these days.

I rock at Rock Band

Last night Jake and I went to a friend’s barbecue. Well, it was at least pretty close to a barbecue. There was more XBOX 360 then barbecue. There were hamburgers though, so I can’t complain.

I’m not going to lie, I’m not an XBOX kind of girl. I like my Wii, I like my Playstation 2. I don’t even want to touch an XBOX controller. However, I was not going to give up a chance to play Rock Band. I know from experience that those games make me dizzy. So instead of drumming or playing guitar I sang, and I actually was good at it. I never once went bellow 90% percent.

Today is my second last day at work, and hopefully it should be a good one. This is a long weekend in Canada, so everyone should be at their cottages by now, so we wont be getting too many customers. Hurray!

The Dark Knight

The JokerLast night I went out to see the new Batman movie. Although it wasn’t exactly a movie I’d choose to watch, overall it wasn’t that bad. The Dark Knight is definitely not like the other batman movies with characters like Poison Ivy or Penguin, which is both good and bad. It’s a good thing if you hated the corniness of those movies, bad if you loved the lightheartedness of those movies.

Heath Ledger did a good job as the Joker, but I didn’t think his performance was especially mind blowing or worth all the hype over how amazing he was. Personally, I think any good actor could have done as good a job as him as long as they had a visionary director to tell them how they should act, or even just an imagination. A lot of the gossip TV shows I’ve seen blame Ledger’s dark portrayal of the Joker for making him sort of “go crazy”. Honestly, there is nothing in the movie that dark. There is absolutely no blood, or scenes that make you cringe at the torture of it all. Some people think that all the praise his acting is receiving is valid, but I feel that the only reason Ledger is getting all this praise is because he died. He was great in Brokeback Mountain, but there was no hype surrounding how godly his acting was.

Overall it was a good movie. I wouldn’t bring anyone much younger then fourteen though. I saw one Dad take what appeared to be a roughly seven year old girl out during the middle of the movie then never come back in. So, if you still haven’t seen the movie, go see it. Or at least rent it or watch it on the digital movie channels once it comes out.

Trip to the beach, and Wii Fit!

Today Jake and I went out on a another full day date. We decided to go around town and just find things to do. So, first we decided to go to the beach and just enjoy the sites around it. The water looked beautiful (in the clean parts at least).

On our way to a play ground so we could play on the swings, two little girls ran out from behind us and stole them away from us. We didn’t complain and sat on the bench not to far away to wait. When they got off to go play on the climber we took the swings and began to swing away. From the climber we could overhear one of the girls say to the other:
“Oh. My. God. Look at those parents on the swings!”
“They’re really young to be parents, my parents have grey hair.”
“Only one of my parents have grey hair.”
Jake and I laughed and he turned to me and said, “Where are our kids, shouldn’t we be watching them? We’re awful parents.”

Later, we decided to go shopping and we encountered an annoying Electronic Boutique salesman who knew absolutely nothing. I asked the man if he had any Wii Fit’s in stock. His response was “Nope, we sold out the second we got them, and always do. You can find them anywhere in the city.”

Then, Jake asked to reserve Soul Caliber 4, and the guy stared at him blankly, said “Um, okay. Just a moment.” Then he proceeded to go back and forth on his two computers for ten minutes, then off to the back room for another five, then came back and continued to not say anything to us and just stared at the computers. So, we left.

Of all places, we went to Walmart, and they had tons of them. So now, I’m a proud owner of a Wii Fit!

Misson Accomplished: My bedroom is clean.

After several hours of procrastinating and cleaning I have finally finished cleaning the disaster known as my room. I took several breaks, many of which were unproductive, but some that were very interesting.

Here it is:

During one of my procrastination breaks, I was looking at the back of my TV and noticed a series of places that perhaps a computer could plug into. So I grabbed my old computer out of the closet and began to play around with cords that I had found in the computer room. Eventually I was able to set it up correctly, so now I can use my TV as a computer monitor. Clearly, I now have the ultimate entertainment center set up.

As you can see, I have my desktop computer, Wii, VCR, and Play Station 2, all going into my Television; while my laptop, stereo, and Nintendo DS are all just kinda hanging around, enjoying being cool on the TV stand. I left my iPod touch on the other side of the room, it’s still trying to fit in with all the other electronics.

Todays Goal: Clean my room.

Because I have spent a good portion of my summer either working or sleeping, I have neglected to clean my room.

This is the current state it is in.

So I have decided that this afternoon will be dedicated to getting my room and my laptop as clean and organized as possible with the amount of time I have to do it.

Wish me luck!

Another two days, another two dollars.

Tomorrow I work from seven till three, and once again seven to three on Wednesday. I realize that as a nurse I will have far worse shifts then that, which I do worry about from time to time. However I find waking up at six to get ready for work is really hard. I love to sleep in, and it’s hard because this is my first summer working at/on something besides baby sitting. But these will be my last of those eight hour shifts at Timmy’s, because I gave my one month notice a little while back. My last day is August 3rd.

I want to enjoy my last few weeks before College, go to the cottage and relax maybe. So after Wednesday I have nothing but a few six hour shifts, and then I’m free to do as I please; until College of course.

Today I went to my friend’s birthday party, and it was a good time. She has an in ground pool so we spent the day in or around it. Unfortunately bees and wasps were out trying to rain on our parade, and a few people got stung; including the birthday girl. She got stung three times in fact; quite the “gift” on your eighteenth birthday.
